4th Grade Reading - 2nd quarter EXAM |
|
CAUTION - I don't know how many 4th graders are allowed to use the forum, but I just want to remind myself and other parents to be cautious in discussing content of EXAMS. That said:
On the 2nd quarter exam, the first question asks the child to define a word that is ONLY given as a title to the selection. I looked in CNR and the vocabulary/Spelling and I don't see that we have ever taught this word. Maybe we are all just dumb here at the Rogers' but neither dad, the teenagers or I thought a fourth grader could get the intricate meaning of this word from the story or be able to put it into their own words. HOW, without telling him flat out, you need to know the definition of this word, can I prepare him for this test?
ALL thoughts, suggestions are welcome.
KELLY

Under high school age are not allowed on the forum so a 4th grade exam q is okay. I'll pass it onto Mrs. Muth. Thanks, mL

This is how I handled that question.
I had my son make is his best guess then look it up in the dictionary. He was actually quite close in his definition. It was a "freebie" question...as long as he made a guess before he looked in dictionary (I made sure he had), he couldn't get it wrong.

Thanks Sharon, that is a good solution, everything else I came up with felt too much like cheating.
God Bless You,
