For 12th grade, what is more important Science or Math? |
|
My upcoming senior has taken 3 years of Math (Alg I, Geo, Alg II) and 3 years of science (phy sci, bio w/lab, chem w/lab); as he is college bound, what would be more important: a 4th year of Math/Pre-Cal, or a 4th year of Science (Anatomy/Physiology)? Looks like he will be a liberal arts major. He is worried he can't handle both in the same year.

More colleges and universities require 4 years of math than 4 years of science, but probably the best thing to do is to take a look at the college entrance requirements for all of the schools you will be applying to. Further, look at the math and science requirements for a liberal arts major to see what he will be required to take in college. For example, the University of Dallas (liberal arts school), requires 1-2 semesters of math and 2 semesters of science for ALL majors. If he were going to this school, he'd want to take courses his senior year to prepare him for those courses.
Overall, i think it is more the "norm" to take 4 years of math over 4 years of science, so if I had to choose, I'd go for the math.
Hope this helps!
