EES Advisor |

We are new to Kolbe this year. I registered in April and signed up for EES with my 6th grader. Are we assigned a particular advisor for this or will a variety of advisors be checking his work? Is someone from Kolbe supposed to contact me prior to the school year or do I just keep plugging away on my own here, sending in work when we get to that point?
Thank You.

EES evaluator assignments |
|
JMJ
Hi Therese,
I'm going to answer your questions and also provide an overview of how EES works.
Once you sign up for EES you should receive a packet in the mail with an interview form that needs to be filled out and sent in so an evaluator can be assigned. When I checked, it looked like you have returned your interview form. When we have the interview form and an evaluator is assigned, then you'll be contacted via phone or an email by the evaluator. That will begin happening starting August 1st.
Although you signed up in the spring, the new EES year doesn't generally get started until August. Not that you can't use the service sooner, but most of the families don't start the school year until August, so that's when we get everyone assigned and start making contact with parents. I'm just finishing up my EES from 07-08 and in August I'll start working with the 08-09 students. July is pretty much the end of the old EES year and August is the beginning of the new one. We have to manage it that way so evaluators aren't inundated with papers from the last year as well as papers from new students.
The students are assigned to a specific evaluator for the year, which enables us to really get to know the student. Assignments are generally based on the student's grade so that the evaluator is looking at a large number of submissions from students in the same grade. If we read several papers on the same topic, we can more effectively evaluate a paper. Parents are also free to request an evaluator and we can usually accommodate that request.
The purpose of EES is to provide more immediate and extremely detailed feedback than what we’re able to do when looking over the samples that come in with a quarterly report. Ideally, students would send their evaluator one paper a week. That works out very well because when the exams are added in, it comes out to 12 submissions a quarter.
It's very difficult to effectively assist a student when we receive multiple papers at one time. That can result in the student making the same mistake in every paper! Very discouraging for them. If you’ve started your school year and have papers ready, please start sending them in one every week. The envelope should be marked on the outside with “EES.” Submissions can also be emailed to the general advisor email with EES and your last name in the subject line.
I noticed that you’ve signed up for one quarter and you can use that quarter at any time. So you may want to start using EES at the beginning of your second quarter to get the most benefit. Sending in the written assignments from English, elementary literature, history, or religion should give you plenty of options. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact the advisors 707-255-6499.
God bless,
Celeste

I have already registered for the 2008/09 school year but did not request EES at that time. After seeing the samples I would like to register for EES for the first quarter. What should I do since my registration is already completed?
I was also curious how the quarter timing works. Do you set a date 9 weeks out from the date of the first paper received?
Thanks,
Janel

The quarter system is based on your quarter. So what would constitute any assignment that goes in your 1st quarter grade would be included in your first quarter samples. It's a use em or lose em system .
To add on EES after initial registration, you will have to call the office: 707-255-6499 ext. 4.

one quater of EES - when to use? |
|
JMJ
Hi Janel,
I just want to reiterate that anyone enrolling for one quarter of EES is not obligated to use EES the first quarter. For students who are either new to Kolbe or just starting high school, it can be a little overwhelming to try and make sure you send in a weekly submission for EES too. I know several parents who opted to start using EES their second quarter once they were comfortable with the program. Sometimes parents use their one quarter of EES for the 4th quarter. It's completely up to the parent when that EES quarter is activated.
God bless,
Celeste
